THE Australian Ballet School has granted Manly West’s Madison Whiteley an opportunity of a lifetime.
The sprightly nine-year-old beat national competitors for a coveted place in the school’s interstate junior program, placing her in prime position for a future as a professional dancer.
Teacher, Annette Roselli, said Madison had shown promise since she started dancing as a five-year-old and competition for placement was fierce.
“They are choosing the children who have the physical ability to do it as a career,” she said.
Judges tested contenders for their turn-out, flexibility, physique and natural ability, before choosing the final students.
An Australian Ballet School spokeswoman said Madison’s hard work and dedication had paid off.
“Madison has been chosen for her facility and aptitude for vocational training in ballet,” she said.
Madison will join fellow recruits in regular trips to Melbourne for specialist classes and Brisbane master classes during 2008.
